IMPORTANT: Fake extensions on the Chrome Web Store
It has been brought to my attention in #222 that there exists extensions that are fake/copycat versions of Disable HTML5 Autoplay on the Chrome Web Store. One such example is this one:
- HTML5 Autoplay Blocker: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/html5-autoplay-blocker/icppkihnmgkncknjlfkkjgfgoifkcgii
I did not author these extensions, nor am I affiliated with them in any way. Use them at your own risk.
There is only one Disable HTML5 Autoplay, which is this one (same as in the README): https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/disable-html5-autoplay/efdhoaajjjgckpbkoglidkeendpkolai
No, this doesn't mean I'm coming back to update the extension. It's still buggy and can cause catastrophic failures, as others have figured out. Frankly, I don't even remember the last time I used this extension. I don't think I'll be coming back to update this extension, mainly because I don't think a good solution can be implemented with an extension alone; there needs to be some changes in the browser itself. Even then, I don't have any interest in implementing something like that anytime soon.
So what should we use instead? The chrome flag doesn't work, especially if I've never visited the site.

Ironically that extension actually works rather well and seems to be somewhat maintained
any chance this copycat is malware? i noticed in charles inexplicable requests to www.instagram.com, graph.instagram.com, and client.nr-extensions.com when its enabled and a large script called businessLogic.js not part of the original extension
edit: and to ip-api.com
any chance this copycat is malware?
I found by chance that it adds keyup and keydown listener, so most probably a malaware
you can test with https://inappbrowser.com having the extension enabled
did anyone report the extension until now? I just did
yup, just saw the one got removed
