Since the retention is applied before creating a new backup we wanted to mitigate the chance that everything was removed before the new backup is created.

I am not sure that we want to commit to supporting packages not coming directly from `apt.postgresql.org`.

Well, we never expected that someone will use a non-default port _in docker_ container. Not sure that such a use-case is deserving time spent on it.

Maybe if you add `PGPORT` [here](https://github.com/zalando/spilo/blob/master/postgres-appliance/runit/patroni/run#L15) it will fix the issue, that would be an easy win.

Postgres image from the dockerhub is based on Debian (don't know which version), while Spilo is based on Ubuntu 18.04 and contains all postgres versions starting from 9.5 to 13....
