let user input date from keyboard

Some times people want to directly input a date from keyboard, can add this?

One of the really big goals of this project was to eliminate the possibility of invalid dates, so user text input was purposefully excluded. If this issue is cited frequently by others, I'll re-consider. For now I'll punt, but I'll also leave the issue open.

Obviously you're free to fork and do this yourself, and of course I'll consider any PRs. Thanks.
