Program has numerious problems with Windows 10 ISO under Windows 10 OS
Most problems I've encountered were closed without any resolution or no response were given.
Steps to reproduce: 0. Version used: v0.6.2
- Download official Windows 10 ISO
- Run tools installed from GitHub releases. I suppose binaries are the same. To try the app I've downloaded portable edition.
- Unpack ISO to a folder
- Open
install.wimand select any image. I've checked several of them, results are the same. - Press buttons. Most screens are empty or give exceptions.
- You'll be given exceptions already reported. no logs needed as they are mostly about invalid DISM usage on operation system reported and exception tells the most useful information about system.
The reason as to why many issues were closed without resolution is because when the program throws an exception, it offers you the chance to report it, and will prepare a new Program Exception issue based on a template.
Some people create issues with just the template, and when I ask for more info, they don't come back, which makes me close such things. These issues feel like an utter waste of time.
With that answered, what exactly is going on? Can you provide diagnostic logs?
In most cases exception and what steps to reproduce are way more important than logs. And you don't ask steps to reproduce.
Logs in most cases are required if issue cannot be reproduced.
In few cases reported (including recently closed issues) exceptions provided tells about DISM incompatibility with the app (as I've reported here). Here I just summarise those issues providing missing info.
I ask for these logs because I can't reproduce this issue on my end. Here are the results after performing the steps you provided:
Based on this, can you provide diagnostic logs? They are stored in <program directory>\logs\DT_DynaLog.log. For example:
What system do you use? What image do you use?
Have you tried to spin up a clean VM?
Windows 10, latest version. A Windows 10 image and, yes, it's in a VM. Whether it's recently installed or not shouldn't matter.
Now, what do you use? And can you submit the logs?
Hmm. I have a Windows 10, but just set up this app.
Could you please to try to run on clean Windows without prior setup?
It also works on a clean installation, so it's definitely something on your side:
Tried the same version (from github releases) on new clean Windows VM from official ISO and got the same output
official windows ISO has been downloaded from this place and haven't been updated (as VM is supposed to die after process is done).
And it's not English, it's Polish version
@eirnym, I had time to test it in a Polish version of Windows 10. It works with no problems:
I suppose app somehow depends on removable components (including Edge). I don't know the actual difference why it's work on your side.
The only dependency is .NET. It doesn't depend on any additional components, and I prefer that it stays this way.
Keep in mind that this was done on a clean Polish installation in a VM.
Given all of this, it would be great to send the diagnostic logs I talked about in the past. Maybe those will reveal what is wrong on your side.
I also have Polish language. I'll look for logs
