Control figure properties like resolution and size ?

Some discussion about that started in this issue, but stopped more than 2 years ago.

Anyone knows how to better control how figures show up in the notebook? My text in the figure below does not show up nice and I cannot find how to crank up the resolution.

Side issue (somewhat related): Can we also control the order in which figures appear in the cell output?
