Bug: tapping G/R/S doesn't bring up gizmo anymore in 4.3
Describe the bug
normally when using gizmodal ops, tapping G/R/S will bring up the gizmo for that respective transform, allowing me to use the gizmo to move the object around. holding G/R/S will allow me to freely move in regards to the view, and this is very handy.
however in 4.3, even after uninstalling and re-installing, the tapping no longer brings up the gizmo. Please let me know what I can do to enable that again.
To Reproduce
- simply tapping G/R/S to bring up the gizmo goes immediately into visual transform, instead of displaying the gizmo.
Expected behavior
- when you tap G/R/S, the gizmo is supposed to appear.
Operating System
Windows 11
Blender Version
Blender 4.3 (latest)
Addon Version
1.0.2
UPDATE: I am able to get tapping G/R/S to display the gizmo in the keymap preferences, but then holding G/R/S to move them around no longer works.
I'm unfortunately not able to reproduce the issue on my side, so it would be awesome if you could add more information. I can create a debug version that logs more information if that helps
sure. truthfully I'm not sure what more info I could provide, please let me know what more I can tell you. I'm using the default blender keymap, and have not touched the gizmodal ops installation in my version of 4.1, which still works fine. As the info included in the add-ons part of preferences says, when I hit G/R/S, the gizmo does appear and by holding it down, it moves it in the viewport according to my screen space.
however in 4.3, with the same install, hitting G/R/S doesn't activate the gizmo, it just keeps moving it according to screen space. I have to click on that button in the T panel on the left to get it to show up.
If you'd like to create a debug version, if that would help, I'd definitely try to use it and get you whatever extra info I can. Thank you!
Someone else with a similar problem just gave me a hint: It might be a problem with Blenders keymaps in general. Which keymap do you use? If you use anything else than the default keymap, can you try to start Blender with all preferences reset and only Gizmodal Ops installed?
To do this, you need to go to
%appdata%\Blender Foundation\Blender
and rename the Folder called 4.3 to 4.3.save. If you want to restore your preferences after testing, delete any folder that might be named 4.3. Then rename 4.3.save to 4.3.
Please let me know whether this issue still occurs, if all preferences are reset.
Hi there! I'm also experiencing this issue in version 4.3. Blender uses the default keymaps. I tried resetting as you suggested, but it still doesn't work. It only gets fixed when I restart Blender.

The addon deactivates the functions every time I start Blender, I have to deactivate and activate the addon again in the extension Is it possible to leave the functions always active?

Awesome...! Thank you for finding the solution. I was experiencing the same bug, and it was very frustrating. While building the scene, this plugin would suddenly stop working, and I had no idea why. Even restarting Blender didn’t help. However, following your method, I was able to resolve the issue successfully. Blender 4.2.2 LTS
