Is there any update in this? I searched online but did't find any documentation about the migration process? Is there something available? Or do we have to destroy and recreate the whole cluster? This would be a bummer..
any tentative timeline for this? thanks!
Hi @miwithro
I notice this feature shifted back to Backlog - I currently have a customer eager to upgrade their VMAS based cluster to VMSS.
Are you able to provide an update on the ETA?
@wdarko1 is there any timelines when we can expect this in GA?
AKS will be working on a migration path from Availability Sets (VMAS) to Virtual Machine node pools. This would allow for a CLI command that will migrate availability sets over to Virtual Machine node pools (VM node pools). We are targeting June/early July 2025 for the release of this solution.
The feature is rolling out across regions with our next AKS release (v20250617) in Preview. To track when the feature reaches your region, visit AKS Release Status
Public documentation is available here: Migration from Availability Sets on AKS.
Note: for any users who need to migrate clusters from Availability Sets also, there is a separate script that performs both migrations at once - see the documentation here: Migration from Availability Sets on AKS
