Help Center: Recommended Resources are not relevant to the site

Open correliebre opened this issue 1 year ago • 2 comments

Quick summary

No response

Steps to reproduce

  1. Open the Help Center
  2. See the first Recommended Resources that show
  3. Even though the site has a paid plan, one of the resources is always about choosing a plan. Even though the site has been open for 8+ years, one of the resources is always about getting started with WordPress.com

Example from a Business plan site that has existed for 8+ years: Screenshot 2024-08-07 at 3 57 12 PM

It's the same as this Business plan site that is new: Screenshot 2024-08-07 at 4 06 08 PM

What you expected to happen

It'd be great if the Recommended Resources were relevant to the user that is opening them, or at least, to avoid showing some that do not make sense. If it's a paid plan, then showing "Choose a WordPress.com plan" is not really helpful.

What actually happened

What happens is that Recommended Resources are not helpful because they are not relevant to the site. We share the same resources to every single user.

Currently, the articles shown are tailored to the page the user is in. The articles are defined in this file, and we may soon move them to the backend.

To fix this, we could extend this structure to handle what to show to different users, or come up with a different solution.

P.S. paths that are not mapped in that json file default to a query

Also, I think @donalirl probably would need to be involved in this.

I remember that team HAL was working on a related project. Perhaps they have more insights: cc @sirino
