Activate Filters Automatically

Open Nzzyme opened this issue 8 years ago • 5 comments

I was wondering if there is a feature to activate the relevant language filters automatically when the user visits webpages of other language. This feature is available in AdGuard Browser Extension for Chrome. Good to have it on Android too. Thanks!

Expected behavior

When the user visits a webpage that is in a particular language (Ex: Russian), the relevant language filter should be enabled & updated.

Actual behavior

Currently, only the filters that have been manually enabled by the user is used.

Your environment

  • Adguard version: 2.10.108
  • Adguard filtering mode: Local VPN
  • Device model: Xiaomi Redmi Note 3
  • Operating system and version: Android Version: 6.0.1 MMB29M [MIUI Global 8.5 | Stable [ 8.5.7.0 (MHOMIED) ]
  • Rooted or not? Not rooted
  • Any other apps that can start VPN/Antiviruses/Cleaners etc. installed? N/A

yeah, think it's possible.

If this is implemented, how about the converse? E.g., optionally disable filterlists automatically if not recently matched or if not on site w/ relevant language?

@TPS : Good but can be an optional setting only for the language filters. I would not like my filters to be disabled especially the social, annoyances, spyware, malware, etc. if I am not visiting a site in a particular language for x number of days.

@clementine123 Some of the filterlists are language-neutral (including, confusingly, the soon-to-be-renamed English filter), so, of course, should always stay according to user's explicit preferences.

This is the one that bothers me. We have auto-activation in AG for Win/Mac and browser extensions, and it sometimes leads to a lot of irrelevant filters being enabled.

So if we do it on Android, we'd better think about disabling unused filters as well.
