Very interesting!

Is it possible to use Apache-2.0 instead? It's the preferred default these days, and I think for video codecs in particular, the community would benefit from the greater level of certainty it provides regarding patents.

Our current preference is BSD 3-Clause as proposed as it is the least restrictive one. However, we can certainly review that option as well.

Hi @youngkwonlim - do you happen to have data comparing APV to codecs like ProRes and HT J2K with metrics like:

  • PSNR scores
  • VMAF scores
  • encode/decode speed (ideally using both open source and commercial implementations for J2K)

I'd love to see a slate of these metrics to better understand where APV fits into the landscape.

Hi Eric,

We can't directly compare APV with ProRes as we don't have license. But we have unofficial comparison result with a professional video codec implemented in ffmpeg in our presentation material. Please refer it as a preliminary result. We will discuss internally how much data we can provide.
