I think it'll simplify modifying protracker - you'll need just single way conversion that can be easier made.

Maybe, but it has to be compressed, just like some of the original graphics (to save up memory).

I'm talking about IFFs as "source files" - for using it for editing and building RAW files without need covert from RAW to IFF, edit something and convert back to RAW.

Aha. Yeah, that would make it easier. However, I'm not really working on PT2.3F anymore these days, so I don't feel like investigating into this at the moment.
