Problem configuring environment on Ubuntu cinnamon

Hi. When I place the API key in ~/.bash_profile and then run the curl command, upon reopening the bash profile, I consistently observe an empty export generated. Additionally, the environment configuration seems to be unsuccessful. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this issue?
